Cairo

Cairo is incredibly crowded, dirty, chaotic and friendly, yet it manages to preserve true Eastern charm, whether in the wonderful mix of ancient and whimsical modern in its buildings, the anarchic order of its traffic, or the evening parade of happy smiling people. I love the place.

The "More info" link takes you to a history of Cairo, a glorious tale of Roman Babylon, Muslim Fustat, Crusader failure, French imperialism and British administration, slave markets, religious fervour and political shennanigans.

Finally, and for a brief time only, I share with you my lecture on the Treasures of Tutankhamun.
