Egypt's first attempt at pyramid building

The Step Pyramid of Saqqara is the oldest pyramid in Egypt. Built by Pharaoh Djoser (or Zoser) of the Third Dynasty, it started out as an ordinary mastaba tomb, but then the architect - a man called Imhotep - got the bright idea of putting another mastaba on top. The result was so pleasing that he kept on making the thing bigger and higher until he ended up with the Step Pyramid.

I don't have enough room to give the full history and details of the pyramid here, but I do give an illustrated lecture on "The Early Pyramids", so if you live in Britain and/or don't mind paying a hefty travel expenses bill, why not contact me?
