Niagara Falls

I could have watched that towering column of spray for hours!

There are sights so well known from photographs and film clips that seeing them in reality - particularly on a less-than-perfect day - can be an anti-climax or even a disappointment. I must admit, however, that Niagara was not one of these.

From the first glimpse of the towering column of spray ascending from the Horseshoe Falls to the awe-inspiring thunder of the water close-up, from the curving sheet of green water plunging over the edge to the soaking spray that swept the deck of the Maid of the Mist, Niagara was all that we ever dreamed of - and then some (to quote the Americanism).

Unfortunately, talking of spray sweeping the deck of the tiny boat is not an exaggeration. Not only were we issued with plastic rain coats as we bought our tickets, but without a waterproof covering for my camera, filming was impossible. A pity, but you'll just have to go and experience it for yourself!
