Anne of Cleves

Kleve is a modern town dominated by its castle that stands on a bluff above the surrounding plain. In the 1500s it was the seat of an important German prince whose daughter was once thought a suitable match for the flambouyant Henry VIII of England, the Tudor monarch with six wives. As a result Hans Holbein, court painter, lost his job and Cromwell, the chief minister, lost his head!

In this film we tell the story of the ill-fated marriage - and just what female horses from Flanders had to do with it.
