Chester

Chester appears to have been founded by the Romans on a greenfield site at the first point where it was possible to bridge the River Dee. Traces of the Roman walls can still be seen, together with an amphitheatre and other remains.

After the Romans left Chester fell into ruins and for a time served as a Viking base, but the site was too valuable to remain unused. Saxons and Normans built here and the city rapidly grew in size and importance.

Today it serves as a flourishing market town for Cheshire and the borders region. As such it is a mecca for street entertainers of all sorts, and our first film from the town and country depicts some of these interesting characters. Our second film takes you to one of the best of Chester's many churches while the third takes you to a heap of dead men.
