Newcastle

Newcastle, just over 100 miles north of Sydney, is a thriving industrial town. Its chief industry used to be steel making, but the steelworks have closed down and now it concentrates on the export of coal and grain through the harbour.

The city is very proud of its history and all over town plaques commemorate the activities of convicts and governors, philanthropists and industrialists, and, of course, the city's regiment.

The Entrance isn't really part of Newcastle, but it is sufficiently close to that city that it can conveniently come under the same heading.
