Llyn Vrynwy

They don't build 'em like this no more!

Llyn Vrynwy, an artificial lake in the hills between Bala and Welshpool, is a lovely spot for a day out. You can hire a boat or a bike, you can walk around the lake or up in the hills, you can bring your binoculars and watch birds and, if you have 15 minutes to spare, you can watch the newly opened and really quite splendid 3D film about the area. (And, best of all, it's free!)

The reservoir betrays its Victorian origin in the water take-off tower, which today would be a concrete block, clinically efficient no doubt, but utterly lacking in charm.
