Even the dog comes out to investigate the rare visitors

The first of the charming Cadfael novels by Ellis Peters is A Morbid Taste for Bones, and most of the action takes place in the little Welsh village of Gwytherin. If you have read the book - or even if you haven't - you might like to see what the setting is really like.

And, of course, if you haven't read the book, I can highly recommend it. A masterly telling of a tangled tale of forbidden love, intrigue, murder for the sake of ambition, religious fraud, and a simple monk trying to sort it all out by leaving a Welsh girl in her grave and elevating a criminal to public devotion in her place.
