The Goblin Tower

	The Goblin Tower is a massive fortification

Denbigh's massive castle had one serious weakness: in the heat of summer the well in the castle courtyard tended to run dry - and without water, the garrison would be forced to surrender.

Outside the town walls, however, there was a more reliable source of water because it was lower down the slope of the hill. The solution was to build a huge tower, which for some reason has become known as the Goblin Tower. Inside the tower was a shaft that ran all the way down to water level and there must have been a windlass to hoist the water up to those who needed it.

After which, all you had to do was carry the precious liquid up the steep stairs and along the narrow wall walkway to the castle.
