The Channel Islands

Situated just off the coast of Normandy - and much closer to France than they are to England - the four main islands of Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark are popular holiday destinations for people from both France and Britain. They can, however, be somewhat of a culture shock, from the high prices to the precedence accorded to pedestrians over vehicles. Perforce the locals have a somewhat friendlier attitude towards the old enemy whose coast is only a dozen miles away.
