Gundagai

The dog sat on the tucker box.

Gundagai is home to one of Australia's iconic ballads, a tale of man struggling hopelessly against fate, when everything and his b****y dog is against him. The only trouble is that the original tale set these events "nine miles from Gundagai", but the good citizens of that town felt that nine miles was just too far away and have rewritten the ballad and repositioned the statue to a mere "five miles from Gundagai". Locals tell me that there is a strong body of opinion which holds that the statue should brought even closer, to stand in the middle of the town as a draw for tourists. Quite how they would rewrite the ballad in that case, I am not sure.
