Daniel chapter 9 carries on where chapter 8 left off. A dozen years later, Daniel is still trying to work out why God has changed His mind and decreed thousands of years of captivity instead of the seventy He promised to Jeremiah.

Once more an angel appears with the explanation - and this time reveals the exact year when the Messiah will be anointed. Curiously, there is only one single date in the New Testament and that is the very year when the Messiah was anointed!
